The Toff

We are delighted to announce the lease of our first racehorse commencing October 1st 2024. The Toff, aged 4, won his first race as a 3 year old, over 7 furlongs for trainer Charlie Hills. He is now trained by Tarporley based trainer Lisa Williamson, who is currently having her best season to date with a 12% win rate (as of September 2024).
The Toff is 16.1 hands high and is a very well proportioned compact horse. His dam (Parakopi) has produced 5 different winners from 5 furlongs up to around 1 mile and his sire (Dandy Man) was a prolific sprinter, winning more than £285,000 during his career. We would expect The Toff to be competitve in races over 6 and 7 furlongs.
He had his first race for us over 7 furlongs at Wolverhampton on the 4th of November. Despite a wide draw, he was taken to the front by jockey Jack Mitchell. He travelled smoothly and looked comfortable in front for a good 5 furlongs or so, before his 9 month lay-off caught up with him. The jockey (and trainer) both mentioned that a drop to 6 furlongs and the application of blinkers should see him get more comepetitive.
The Trainer
Lisa Williamson runs a small yard, with only a dozen or so horses. This enables her to give personal care to her horses, which can often pay dividends for the right kind of horse (just take a look at the form of Smooth Silesie who had failed to win in 8 races before moving to Lisa's yard. He has so far won 5 times in 2024). She believes she can get the best of out The Toff and says that he will be ready to run in the last week of October. We will have regular visits to the yard and all syndicate members are welcome. When you visit the yard you'll see just how well loved these horses are and also just how hands on Lisa is as a trainer. I've met trainers in big yards who don't really know their horses very well and just blindly put them through the same repetetive training regime. Lisa takes time to understand each horse and train them accordingly, and she is very keen to ensure they get plenty of playtime out in the field.
The Plan
With winter approaching Lisa is looking to target the ARC all-weather championships which pays out a total of £1 million in bonuses based on points accumulated between October 22nd and April 18th (Good Friday). Monthly bonuses pay up to £40k with the overall championship winner receiving £100k (with a further £550k split between the remaining top 20). Lisa has won additional bonuses before via this ARC series and believes The Toff could be the perfect candidate for this additional prize money. Beyond the winter and into next year the aim is to have The Toff running at both North West racecourses: Chester and Haydock Park.
The Syndicate
The syndicate has taken a lease of The Toff for 12 months from October 1st 2023. What this means is Red Silks Racing acts like owners of the horse but without the cost of purchasing him. While we are leasing him ALL prize money including bonuses (less racing expenses) would be split between the shareholders of the horse, relevant to your shareholding (i.e. someone with 10% shareholding would receive twice as much as someone with 5%).
It should be noted that a racing syndicate is a fun and affordable way of experiencing racehorse ownership. It is not offered as a money making scheme or an investment. We are here to give you some fabulous days at the races. If there happens to be money in the pot at the end of it, then that is a huge bonus.
Each share is for 5% of The Toff and that will get you an owner's badge (ticket) to the races whenever and wherever The Toff runs. You will receive regular updates about the horse and will be invited to yard visits. You will be entitled to 5% of any winning received during your membership (less racing expenses, training fees etc.)
The Toff will always run in Red Silks Racing's distinctive colours of red silks with beige armlets.
